Where Are Our Favorite ’90s Acts Now?

The Spice Girls

The Spice Girls pretty much dominated the girl group scene throughout the 90’s. With hits like “Wannabe,” and “Spice up Your Life,” the pop stars consistently were at the top of the charts. Not to mention, they had their own movie (which I watched religiously). So where are they now? Mel C. (sporty spice) has a pretty successful UK music career and a son. Mel B. (scary spice) briefly dated Eddie Murphy and had his child. Career wise, she’s in the music scene and reality TV, having judged The X Factor. Victoria Beckham (posh spice) is currently married to David Beckham, and the two have built quite the empire. She has also been designing high-end clothing. Gerri Halliwell (ginger spice) has written a couple of books, solo albums, and has also worked for the UN. Emma Bunton (baby spice) has been making reality TV cameos on shows like The X Factor and American Idol.

Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl struck rock star gold with two huge bands: Nirvana and Foo Fighters. He was and still is a talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Today, the Foo Fighters are still a touring band and sell out shows consistently. Their last album was released in 2014, but I think it’s safe to say Dave Grohl will keep making solid albums.

Gwen Stefani

In the 90’s, Gwen Stefani was the face of a pop-alt band called No Doubt. She had hit after hit with songs like “Spider Webs,” and “It’s my life.” Today we can find her taking a break from The Voice and enjoying small town life with her future husband, Blake Shelton.

Ice Cube

Ice Cube was the first to leave the rap group N.W.A., but he remained a large figure in gangsta rap all throughout the 90’s. These days he acts in all kinds of movies like 21 Jump Street and Are We There Yet? Also, his son is featured in the new movie made about his career: Straight Outta Compton.

Marilyn Manson

In the 90’s, Marilyn Manson was a huge figure in both rock and goth culture. He wrote songs that are still recognizable like “The Beautiful People.” Speaking of recognizable, he still has the same look as he did in the 90’s (pale face, heavy makeup, black clothes). He’s still writing songs, modeling for Marc Jacobs, and even hanging out with Johnny Depp.

Snoop Dogg

Dr. Dre discovered Snoop Dogg’s rap career in the early 90’s. He was constantly on the radio, and he had his 1994 album Doggystlye go platinum. These days he’s still smoking a lot of weed, in addition to making cameos in movies. He recently took over the internet with his Animal Planet narrations, which was hilarious. To top it all off, he also got inducted to the WWE Celebrity Hall of Fame this year.

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette is my personal favorite edgy pop 90’s act. Her original voice and kick-ass attitude were unmistakable, and so were her hits like “You Oughta Know,” and pretty much every other song on Jagged Little Pill, which was released just about 20 years ago. Today she is focused on her career and spiritual teachings. In addition to being married with a son, she also has a book which I will definitely have to read.

Courtney Love

Courtney Love fronted the 90’s rock band, Hole, and was often called the queen of rock in that decade. She was married to Kurt Cobain and gave birth to Frances Bean Cobain. In addition, she got a lot of criticism for drug use. These days, she is clean and very much into the fashion scene, having recently done a campaign with Marc Jacobs.

Darius Rucker

Darius Rucker was known for having a highly original sound fronting the 90’s band Hootie and the Blowfish. They had hits like “Let Her Cry,” and “Hold My Hand.” They stayed together until 2008; however, Hootie, unfortunately, is no more. These days he is actually rocking a solo career making country music and doing very well with it.

Sheryl Crow

Most recognized for her hit “All I Wanna Do,” Sheryl Crow definitely hit the music scene hard in the early 90’s. She won nine Grammys over the years and proved herself to be an insanely talented songwriter. These days, she’s still touring and playing shows after releasing her latest album Feels Like Home in 2013. She also has adopted a son whom she lives with in Tennessee.
