The Coolest Fashion-Tech Companies Coming Out of Silicon Valley

The evolution of technology is constantly bringing change to the fashion industry. From algorithms designed to determine personal style choices to photo software that allows you to virtually try on outfits, fashion and technology have gone hand in hand in creating innovative new style services. And where better for these inventive new brands to launch their ideas than Silicon Valley? This portion of the San Fran Bay Area is famous for being home to some of the world’s largest tech corporations and thousands of startup companies. So naturally, SV was the first place we looked for this year’s crop of innovative, new fashion and tech creations. Read on for our round-up of the coolest new companies you have to check out.

Project September

Do you ever find yourself staring at a cute #ootd post on Instagram, wondering what brands those pieces are/where you can find them? Well, Project September is here to solve that issue for us. This app allows you to follow style leaders like Nina Garcia, Nicole Richie, and Christy Turlington, as well as other users and shop the pieces worn in pictures directly from the photographs. Users can also opt to post their own style shots, tag their own pieces, and earn commission when others shop their looks.  No more endless google searches for that bad ass leather jacket you’re dying to have…this app will be a huge time saver in the shopping department.

Lyon and Post

Retailers don’t make you pay to try on clothes in-store, so why should you have to buy things online when you’re unsure of the look, size and fit? With Lyon and Post, shop pieces curated by the brand’s Fashion Director, get them shipped free to your home, try them on, then send back the pieces you don’t like (return shipping is also free), and purchase the ones you do! Simple as that. Online shopping just got a whooole lot easier and more fun.

Fovo

We love this brand’s totally fresh outlook on shopping. Rather than scrolling through countless pages of items you’re not crazy about, shop Fovo’s customized feed of apparel and accessories based on your body shape and personal style preferences rather than generic sizes. This site specially curates pieces from a variety of brands built from a personal style quiz and body-type questionnaire. Talk about a personalized shopping experience!

Mooch App

How often do you see someone walking down the street sporting a skirt or a jacket you instantly wish you could borrow? Well, Mooch took that idea and created a wardrobe-sharing app, so your closet can be truly unlimited. You can sell and rent out pieces from your own wardrobe, then search for other users in your specified area so you can shop their closets and request to borrow or purchase a variety of items. It’s the ultimate wardrobe-building tool- after all, your closet can never really be too full.

Hit or Miss

Introducing the Tinder of all fashion apps. Hit or Miss is a shopping software designed with the same “swipe right/ swipe left” mentality as the infamous dating app. Sort through a variety of collections, updated daily, then scroll through individual pieces and click left for “miss” or right for “hit.” Each click helps the app to build a more personalized shopping profile, so you are presented with the pieces you’re more likely to love!
